Speaking Out on Financial Abuse
“SPEAKING OUT ON FINANCIAL ABUSE” is a groundbreaking new podcast about the domestic violence issue of financial abuse in marriage and romantic partnerships. Each episode features a survivor of economic violence to tell their stories or someone who knows lots about finances and financial abuse in relationships (authors, advocates, organizations, etc). 99% of domestic violence cases involve financial abuse, yet the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) reports that 78% of Americans don’t know that financial abuse is a domestic violence issue. This broadcast hopes to change that via explosive and memorable interviews with experts and survivors of financial abuse.

ABOUT LAURIE G:
Laurie G. is a native of the Midwest United States with over 35 years’ experience as a sales & marketing professional in the international art world as well as high tech industries where she was nearly always ranked as a top earner. She is the former head of artist relations in Manhattan for the largest international chain of art galleries during the ‘80’s and ‘90’s, and later acted as east coast director for the largest art auction corporation where she was also one of very few women in the US to become a nationally licensed fine art auctioneer in the mid 90’s. More recently in 2022, Laurie created, co-produced and served as Arizona’s volunteer chairperson for a statewide visual art competition that earned national press and an invitation for Laurie to appear as a featured guest on Phoenix’s city’s largest talk radio show. This appearance sparked Laurie’s idea to launch a podcast on financial abuse. She also holds a bachelor's degree in music from a recognized “Top Ten” east coast music conservatory and is currently a performing member of a statewide orchestra.
“In over twenty years of marriage, I went through at least six marriage counselors while I was suffering severe financial abuse the entire time. My ex announced day one of our marriage that he was an unemployed and ‘you make enough for both of us’, and only a few days later, I also discovered he had been hiding serious alcoholism as well. No one told me I was under domestic violence”, Laurie says, “By the time I signed divorce papers, my ex had been unemployed almost fifteen years and had drained more than one million dollars of my personal income for his daily support plus legal fees for his multiple drunk driving arrests, drug overdose and thousands of other life mistakes. I lost myself and my dignity for more than two decades hiding the abuse, horror and lies of my marriage and needed a voice for myself. When I discovered that no podcast had ever been created that is solely devoted to the topic of financial abuse as a domestic violence issue in marriage and romantic partnerships, I decided to become the first person ever to take the chance to do so. And it has become my voice, for myself and to bring more awareness about this issue.”
